- SMILe is an R&D group that studies the practical applications of fuzzy logic techniques to document management.
- The results of the research will greatly improve the performance levels of DocPath Aspen, one of DocPath’s major document management solutions.
Madrid, February 24, 2014 – In March 2013, DocPath signed an R&D agreement with SMILe, one of the main research group of the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM – Spain). The goal of the project is to extend the possibilities of DocPath´s Aspen document management solution by implementing Soft-Computing and Artificial Intelligence techniques.
The research project is called “The Application of Fuzzy Logic Techniques to Document Environments”, and its main objective is to develop a new technology that allows for document database searches based on fuzzy logic. This technological contribution will provide DocPath with an important competitive advantage in the international market of document management software, as the research results will directly affect DocPath products.
Since March 2013, SMILe has been investigating and developing practical applications of fuzzy logic techniques for document management. Specifically, SMILe intends to develop new semantic document search and extraction methods. The resulting technology is to be integrated into DocPath Aspen´s technological core. This means that a new DocPath Aspen solution will be born, which allows for intelligent document searches and stands out from competing document management solutions in the market.
DocPath Aspen
Aspen is a complete document management system that allows for efficient management and storage of a company´s legacy documents and online document searches and consultations. The solution includes all the main features required for optimal document management.
Apart from archival functionalities, Aspen comes with a wide variety of advanced features that turn it into one of the most potent document software solutions in the market. Some of these features are: real time and online document generation, controlled document distribution and document digitization.
To DocPath, research means knowledge development, which, in turn, is the engine that drives both academic training and general progress. For this reason, and because of the company´s close relationship with the UCLM, DocPath decided to join the SMILe group, as the resulting R&D would benefit both parties.
Likewise, SMILe intends to publish the main conclusions of the document management research project in national and international conferences concerning fuzzy logic and data retrieval.
About the UCLM
The University of Castilla-La Mancha was founded in 1982 and, since then, its main objective has always been to act as a reference and a trigger for economic, social, cultural and technological development in the Spanish area of Castilla-La Mancha.
The SMILe Group has different lines of research: Online Data Retrieval Using Soft-Computing Techniques, Development of Online Meta Search Engines, Knowledge Management in Learning Groups and Patterns, and Development of Knowledge-Based Systems, especially in the field of Prediction.
