QBE Success Story
Seamless Migration of 6000 IBM InfoPrint Designer Forms
QBE’s Problem
QBE needed to update the operating system of their AS400 servers, but the document generation software they used, IBM’s InfoPrint Designer, was no longer supported by this latest version, so they could not receive technical support from their supplier.
QBE’s biggest problem was that they had close to 6000 forms to maintain, which was impossible with IBM InfoPrint Designer. This was a major concern for the organization, due to the criticality of these documents for the business. Moreover, the software was not very user friendly, making it even more difficult to manage in the long term. QBE searched the internet and found that, on IBM’s website, DocPath (a leader in document software solutions was recommended for InfoPrint Designer migrations. QBE then contacted DocPath and began their migration.
DocPath’s Solution for Replacing IBM InfoPrint Designer
DocPath offered QBE the option to migrate their 6000 forms from InfoPrint Designer seamlessly, that is, without requiring any changes to their existing applications. This was of vital importance to QBE, as they could rest assured that, other than the barest minimum of effort and tinkering necessary to validate the forms, they would not have to make any changes to their existing architecture, avoiding a long and expensive migration process. QBE only had to turn in all their project files to DocPath and receive back their forms already converted and ready to run in their environment.
DocPath also configured the engine to automate document generation by merging these forms with QBE’s customer data. Installation took only a few days and was followed by a thorough training, leaving IT employees extremely happy with DocPath’s solution.
Thanks to DocPath’s document software, any person in the organization, regardless of the department to which he/she belongs, can view documents simultaneously and generate files in PDF format (including both in-house and third-party delivery notes). In addition, the solution includes a professional document design tool that allows users to incorporate everything from barcodes to images and graphics into the dynamic templates.
Benefits Gained by Migrating from IBM InfoPrint Designer
Now, QBE has a solution for the design, generation, and distribution of documents developed using the latest technology, so that if QBE one day decides to move its servers to another platform or the Cloud, they will have all the capacity to deploy “containers” and make the most efficient use of their resources.
It should also be noted that QBE needed to replace legacy software and DocPath provided a solution that can not only meets their current requirements but also provides many new functionalities, something evident simply because of the approximately 35 years of difference between the development of one software and the other.
QBE now has a future-proof solution that provides them with total security in terms of business continuity, with access to tools to involve other departments such as Marketing and Legal in the creation of dynamic forms (which adjust their appearance to the content of the data), allowing greater control and management of their business information, as well as to improve their customers’ experience, since the documents they receive are of high quality and contain valuable marketing content.
