- 150 teams of Secondary School students from Castilla-La Mancha participated in this edition
- Each of the students was gratified with a technological present.
Ciudad Real, 1 July 2014 – The balance of the eights edition of the Informatics Olympics, organized by the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM), among the Secondary School students from the region, has been very positive due to the high number of participants and the good results obtained. Once more, DocPath has been one of the companies sponsoring this event, in which the winners were awarded technological prizes.
Between January and May, 2014, a total of 150 teams participated in two categories: baccalaureate and vocational training. This edition consisted of four tests, the first three were online tests, and the forth test was completed in person, at the School of Advanced Computer Engineering in Albacete of the UCLM.
The syllabus designed for the baccalaureate students was related to Basic Computer Engineering, Office software and Programming. And the Vocational Training students, prepared topics on Operating Systems, Data Base and Programming.
The tests were assessed by an Organizing Committee and the final results were calculated considering 25% of the accumulated score during the tests online and 75% of the score in the face to face final test.
Francisco José Alfaro Cortés, Professor in the Department of Computer Systems of the UCLM and coordinator of the VIII IT Olympics, congratulated all the participating teams in generalized manner, and the winners personally. Also added that “the aim of this event has been accomplished, which was to promote the use and knowledge of IT among the Secondary School students of Castilla-La Mancha”.
From DocPath, Arturo Peralta Martín-Palomino, Director of the Design and Development Department, greatly appreciates the high participation and highlights “it is encouraging to see a great interest on IT among Secondary School students from the town, since new technologies are behind many of the innovations that improve our lives”.
The winners
The best classified teams in the Baccalaureate category are the following:
- On the first place is the “El bueno, el feo y el malloc” team from Cedes School (Albacete).
- On the second place is the “Aperture Science” team from Leonardo da Vinci Secondary School (Albacete).
- On the third place, the “Shu Programito” team from Alonso Quijano Secondary School (Ciudad Real).
The best classified teams in the vocational training category are the following:
- On the first place is the “Los Smith” team from the Maestre de Calatrava Secondary School (Ciudad Real).
- On the second place is the “ReadWriteeXecute” team from the Pedro Mercedes Secondary School (Cuenca).
- On the third place, is the “Escultor” team from the Escultor Jose Luis Sánchez Secondary School (Albacete).
The prizes that were sponsored by technological companies, were the same for the first, second and third classified from both categories. The winners received a laptop Acer TravelMate P253, with a LED 15.6″ screen and Intel i3 dual-core processor. The second classified, a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 tablet with a 10.1″ screen, 16 GB and Wi-Fi. And those classified in the third place, a Sony PRS-T3 e-book with a built-in protective cover.
