DHL Chooses DocPath Document Software for their Logistic Processes

DHL, Deutsche Post’s logistics division, operates in several countries and deals with hundreds of different transport organizations. The company is committed to serving its customers in a timely and efficient manner, so optimizing processes is a must.
Operating the warehouse floor, where many hundreds of trucks must be loaded with the right cargo and dispatched to the right address every day, can be an incredibly difficult task. Controlling the loading of each truck at each dock is already a major hassle, but providing them with the proper documentation and entering the data back into the system could turn the process into a nightmare.
Despite running a modern, well-assembled network of warehouses with state-of-the-art storage equipment and high computing power, they still faced problems in generating and compiling the necessary documentation.

DocPath was chosen to provide a document software solution for the logistics sector that could generate all the required documents. Our solution works in tandem with a multifunction printer (MFP) with scanning capabilities. This way, when returning to the warehouse, the carrier can scan their own documents, closing the loop. The software also allows the storage of images containing the recipient’s signature and notifications of any problems with the delivery.
DHL decided on installing easily accessible kiosks on the operations floor. DocPath suggested running the solution in a “self-service station”, which could be a kiosk or a table with a touch screen and a multifunction printer with a PC tower under the table. Taking advantage of the low cost of the hardware, DHL decided to install self-service stations between docks, allowing carriers quick access to documentation and avoiding long trips to the head office. When the carrier returns to the office, he can scan his documents to receive two copies of a one-page summary – one copy for him; the other, to leave in a basket on the desk.

They also saved thousands in operational costs: since there is no need to print or scan documents from the central office, they need very few people to manage their system.
DHL also achieved a reduction in the time each truck spends at the dock, as well as a great increase in the level of satisfaction of the staff involved, especially the carriers. This resulted in savings of more than $500,000 in the first year alone.
